2014 Honda Accord Hybrid

Honda just announced pricing for the 2014 Accord Hybrid, which will start a smidgen below the $30,000 mark.

Most notably, the car is rated to achieve 50 mpg in the city, which is more than double what the previous Accord hybrid was supposed to deliver. Speaking of delivery, the gas-sipping mid-size sedan is supposed to start arriving at dealerships in October. Pricing for the mid-level EX-L starts at $32,695 and the Touring trim comes in at $35,695.

Combined fuel consumption is rated at 47 mpg because the car is estimated to return 45 mpg on the highway. This is an important vehicle for Honda because it uses the company’s new hybrid drivetrain technology. It’s the same two-motor hybrid system found in the Accord plug-in hybrid instead of the outdated “Integrated Motor Assist” (IMA) equipment.

Perhaps most importantly, the 50 mpg arguably figure puts Honda on top of the segment. The Fusion hybrid is rated at 47 mpg in both city and highway driving, but that still puts it three mpg lower for slower driving.

The Jetta Hybrid offers a better highway fuel economy rating at 48 mpg, but has a lower 45 mpg overall rating.
